Refunds are not available on previously purchased StaRT fares, including all StaRT Bus Cards and Ticket Books. Minimum Age Requirements - Children age four (4) and under ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. Only one free child fare is allowed for each paid fare. Minimum age for a child without adult supervision is nine (9) years old. Eight (8) and under must be accompanied by someone sixteen (16) years or older. In order to receive a discounted fare for StaRT services, passengers are required to show a StaRT Senior/Person with Disability card to the driver (See Discount Information).

If you’re a student and you’re riding StaRT, why not take advantage of our discounted 20-ride bus card? Student bus cards are only $17.00 for 20 rides, and they’re convenient to use. Just board the bus, the driver punches the card and you’re on your way. You don’t need to worry about using all of your change, so you’ll have quarters for the vending machine when you get to school! Affording college can be a "tough road," so why not make the ride a little smoother with a student 20-ride bus card? Valid only on StaRT fixed route buses (not restricted to school only). Students must show a valid student ID with Bus Card when boarding. StaRT is not responsible for lost or stolen Bus Cards. Bus Cards are non-refundable. Bus Cards are non-transferable. General Fare Bus Cards - Fixed Route Only

Just board the bus, the driver punches your card and you're on your way. StaRT makes it easy. No ticket hassle, just one convenient card with no expiration date so you can use it whenever you want.

Transfers for Fixed Route (fixed stops only), Shuttles, Runabout & Dial-A-Rides
Riders can transfer between StaRT, Modesto's MAX, CAT (Ceres Area Transit), Ceres Dial-A-Ride, ROTA DAR & Trolley (Riverbank/Oakdale Transit Authority), Escalon Dial-A-Ride (SJRTD) and Turlock's BLST for only 25¢. Only riders who get on or off at a StaRT fixed stops may purchase a transfer. Transfers are not accepted to ride Route 70. Transfers are available to MAX or BLST. Transfers at Patterson City Park are free between Route 40 (Westside Stage), Route 45 & the Newman Dial-A-Ride (Fixed Stops Only). Only riders who get on or off at StaRT fixed stops may purchase a transfer. To transfer from any of the above services to a StaRT Shuttle or Runabout curb-to-curb service, a full fare is required. Transfers are good only at transfer points in Modesto, Ceres, Turlock and designated StaRT bus stops in the ROTA service area. Passengers may only purchase one transfer per paid fare. A Transfer may be used for the continuation or extension of a current trip and may not be used for a return trip.
